Smart bulletin board system for discovering upcoming campus events
My team envisioned and developed Notify Me!, a smart bulletin board for discovering upcoming campus events. My primary responsibility was developing the client-side component, for which I designed and implemented the UI and REST APIs from scratch.
The Problem
College students often struggle to discover events happening on campus. Traditional bulletin boards are limited by physical space and visibility, and email announcements get lost in crowded inboxes. There was a need for a more engaging, personalized way to help students find events that matched their interests.
Our Solution
Notify Me! was a web-based platform that acted as an intelligent hub for campus events. Key features included:
Interest-based event filtering and recommendations
Intuitive, mobile-friendly UI
Real-time event notifications
Social sharing capabilities
Admin interface for event organizers
My Contribution
I led the frontend development, designing the user interface from the ground up. I focused on making event discovery feel natural and enjoyable. I also designed and implemented the REST APIs that powered the application, ensuring efficient communication between frontend and backend.
Design Principles
Every design decision was informed by user research and testing. I prioritized discoverability and serendipity—the interface was designed to help users find events they didn't know they wanted to attend. The interaction model was simple and intuitive, recognizing that students access the app in between classes and other activities.
Design principles
Built for discovery and serendipity. Prioritized accessibility and ease of use so students could quickly find events of interest.
Impact
Demonstrated how thoughtful interface design can increase event attendance and student engagement on campus.
