Multi-site Drupal platform with public site, intranet, hosting, and SSO system
I proposed, designed, implemented, and deployed a Drupal-based website collection for Tut House Student Council, my high school student government. This multi-site system consisted of a public-facing site for news and surveys, an intranet for Council collaboration, a web hosting platform for other student clubs, and a custom single sign-on system.
The Vision
As a student leader, I recognized that our student government needed better communication and organizational tools. Rather than accept the limitations of commercial platforms, I proposed building a custom solution tailored to our needs.
System Architecture
The platform consisted of four integrated components:
Public Site: News, announcements, and event calendar for the entire school community
Intranet: Secure space for Student Council members to collaborate, share documents, and coordinate initiatives
Club Hosting Platform: Self-service website creation for student clubs, reducing administrative burden
Custom SSO System: Unified login using school directory, streamlining access across all properties
Organizational Design
This project taught me that technology systems must reflect and support organizational structures. By creating dedicated spaces for internal collaboration and public communication, we reinforced the different roles and responsibilities within student government. The self-service club hosting platform empowered other student organizations and reduced our administrative load.
Impact
The platform became central to student government operations and became a model for other student organizations at the school. It demonstrated that thoughtful technical infrastructure could improve organizational effectiveness and student engagement.
Design principles
Designed to support the human dynamics of our student government. Each system component was built with a specific user group and purpose in mind.
Impact
Became the central platform for student government operations and demonstrated the power of technology to improve organizational effectiveness.
