All-in-one Java application for managing the annual UNIS-UN conference
The EXCOMM Communicator was a comprehensive Java application designed to manage the annual UNIS-UN conference planning and coordination. As my IB HL Computer Science project, it demonstrated sophisticated software engineering practices including UI design, database management, and feature development.
Project Scope
For this ambitious individual project, I built a desktop application that would have provided the Executive Committee (EXCOMM) with integrated tools for conference management.
Implemented Features
Custom UI framework for consistent, professional interface
CRM (Customer Relationship Management) for tracking schools and participants
Mail merge and bulk email capabilities for announcements
Database backend for persistent data storage
Planned Features
Additional features envisioned for future development included:
Shared to-do list for task coordination
Integrated notebook for meeting notes
File browser and document management
Cloud sync capabilities for remote collaboration
Learning Outcomes
This project taught me the importance of understanding user workflows before building solutions. By working with the EXCOMM team, I learned that organizational tools need to adapt to how people actually work, not impose rigid structures.
